Liverpool ready to activate FC Porto star’s £35 million release clause

Liverpool are set to activate the £35 million release clause in FC Porto defender Alex Telles’ contract, according to reports from The Express.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his defence as he looks to to build a side to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Liverpool finished last term in fourth place, and reached the final of the Champions League, where they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.

And the German manager is reportedly keen to land Telles to bolster his options at full-back.

The Brazilian, who can play at either left or right back, has a modest £35 million release clause in his contract with the Portuguese champions, a fee Liverpool are understood to be willing to pay for the highly rated 25-year-old.

The Reds will face competition from both Chelsea and newly promoted Wolves however if they are to land Telles, who made 45 appearances in all competitions last season for Sérgio Conceição’s side.

Telles is yet to be called up for the Brazil national side and is also eligible to represent Italy.
