Liverpool Send Scout To Watch German Under 21 Keeper In Champions League Action

Liverpool are among the teams scouting Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, according to reports in Portugal.

The German Under 21 international only joined the Portuguese club from Panathinaikos in the summer, but he is already garnering interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Vlachodimos started Benfica’s 2-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich last week, and the Reds, along with four other Premier League clubs (Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle) had representatives at the match to keep an eye on the 24-year-old.

Two German teams, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt were also there to watch the keeper, while Bayern themselves also reportedly are keen on the player.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to be looking for a new number two. Simon Mignolet wants to leave the club to get more first-team football, but Loris Karius’s departure to Besiktas meant the Belgian had to stay put in the summer.

However, the situation is likely to change in January and Vlachodimos could be a candidate that the Merseyside club are considering. The German has made ten appearances so far this campaign, conceding eight and keeping four clean sheets.
