Liverpool ‘Keen’ on Serie A Right-Back as Fabrizio Romano Drops Major Transfer Update

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing a right-back before the January transfer deadline, which hits at 7 pm.

The Reds had been targeting RB Leipzig full-back Lutshareal Geertruida, who is currently on a season-long loan at Sunderland; however, that move has now fallen through.

It is understood that Liverpool is desperate to sign a right-back, as both Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley are injured for the foreseeable future. However, they are running out of time.

They have already signed Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet for £60m, but are now looking to find a new right-back option. It is understood that they are now looking at a Serie A star as an option.

Liverpool ‘keen’ on Denzel Dumfries

Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world. He is very effective defensively, but almost better in attack. He would be the perfect long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are keen on the Dutch international, and have considered making a move for him this month. However, Romano posted on X, inlcuding comments by Inter President Giuseppe Marotta. He has quickly shut down the links between Dumfries and Liverpool.

He said: “Liverpool keen on Dumfries? Some phone calls are to the limit of correctness, done even in a sudden way, which do nothing but destabilise. Absolutely no chance. Dumfries stays with us here at Inter”

The Reds also eyeing up Galatasaray right-back

Dumfries isn’t the only alternative to Geertruida, Liverpool have also been linked to signing Galatasaray right-back Roland Sallai.

This season, the Hungarian has played 29 times in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and providing 6 assists. He actually played against Liverpool in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win back in September, coming on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes.

It is understood that Sallai is Liverpool’s ‘fall-back’ option from Geertruida, but, whether they can make a deal happen before the end of the transfer window remains to be seen.
