Liverpool Set To Secure Ex Boro Shot-Stopper On One Year Deal

Liverpool are poised to sign veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan on a one-year contract, according to the Liverpool Echo. The former Middlesbrough player is available on a free and can be signed outside of the transfer window.

The Reds are looking to draft in a senior keeper after Alisson Becker sustained a calf injury against Norwich on Friday. It is still not known how long the Brazilian international will be out for.

Adrian will be in goal for the European Super Cup against Chelsea on Wednesday night, and the Merseyside club are hoping to seal a deal for Lonergan so he can take his place on the bench in Istanbul.

The urgency to snap up the 35-year-old is due to the fact that Liverpool don’t have any other fit experienced goalkeepers in the squad at the moment.

Caoimhin Kelleher would have been the next in line but the 20-year-old is still recovering from a wrist injury and is not ready to be selected.
