Liverpool Target ‘Next Van Dijk’ As They Challenge United For Defender With 35.5M Release Clause

Liverpool are interested in Sporting Braga centre-back David Carmo, according to 90min.com. The website claims the Reds are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old who has been compared to a young Virgil van Dijk.

Manchester United and Leicester have also been linked with the Portuguese defender in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp’s side will make the first move to sign the player.

Carmo reportedly has a release clause of €40m (£35.5m), which may make him an attractive target for Liverpool, who are said to be interested in signing a new centre-half.

Sporting director Michael Edwards is likely hesitant about paying over the odds for a defender during the January transfer window but Carmo’s buyout fee means they wouldn’t be priced out of a deal.

The fact that Carmo is a promising young defender would also count in his favour and make him a good candidate to come in and be the third or fourth choice centre-back option.
