Liverpool could sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie for between £10m and £15m in the January transfer window, according to Get Italian Football News editor Kaus Pandey.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Pandey claims that Milan are determined that the Ivorian international doesn’t leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June so they may well be open to offloading him in the New Year:
“They could sell him in January so they don’t have a repeat of Gigi Donnarumma or Hakan Calhanoglu [who they lost this summer for nothing] and they might take £10m or whatever in the next transfer window.”
“It is also reported that Kessie’s agent is being a little cheeky with the negotiations – that initially, the wage demands were around €2-3m and when Milan accepted that, he increased the demands to €5-6m, and when they agreed that, they increased the demands again.”
“It is still up in the air but as things stand, it looks as if Milan might be happy to sell him in January if they can’t get him to sign a new deal… If Liverpool can get him either for free next summer or for £10m to £15m in January then it would be a brilliant move.”
Chelsea and Tottenham have also been linked with Kessie over the past few months but speculation in Italy suggests Liverpool would be the frontrunners for the 24-year-old if he does decide to leave the San Siro.
It’s probably wise to take the reports about Kessie with a large pinch of salt, though. As Pandey mentions, the Ivorian’s agent has been in negotiations with Milan over a new deal, and he could be using the Reds as a way to get more money for his client. We shall see how this one plays out.
