Liverpool are interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to TBRFootball.

The website claims that the Reds are “among [the] clubs eyeing” the 20-year-old, who only moved to Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers for £22m during the January transfer window.

Wharton is also believed to be on the radar of Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle, in addition to several top clubs on the continent.

TBRFootball say a sale this summer is not out of the question with Palace chairman Steve Parrish said to be willing to listen to offers at the right price.

How much would Wharton cost Liverpool?

Palace are expected to demand over double what they paid Blackburn for the midfielder at the start of this year so bids in excess of £50m will be required.

That is a steep price for someone who has only played 15 games in the Premier League, as well as making just one appearance for England at Under 21 level.

Carragher is a big fan of the youngster

Speaking after Palace secured a shock win at Anfield last month, Reds legend Jamie Carragher described Wharton’s performance as “outstanding”.

The Sky Sports pundit was particularly impressed with his ability to keep the ball and create chances for his teammates.

Even so, signing another midfielder is unlikely to be a top priority for Liverpool this summer. While Thiago Alcantara is set to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next month, the Reds still have the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Stefan Bajcetic and Wataru Endo to fill three positions.

The Merseyside club’s focus for the next transfer window is expected to be on recruiting a centre-back, a wide forward and potentially a fullback. For now, it seems Wharton is just being scouted; nothing more than that.
