Liverpool Eye Up Free Agent Midfielder Targeted By Manchester United

Reports in France suggest that Liverpool are eyeing up a potential move for free-agent midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Juventus released the 29-year-old at the end of last season and is yet to sign his next contract, however, reports suggest he could be on his way to Anfield.

According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are eyeing a move for the French international as Arne Slot looks to add depth to the Red’s already strong midfield.

There were reports earlier in the transfer window that Liverpool wanted Rabiot, however, they went quiet, but it looks like they have re-vamped their interest.

Having had spells at Juventus and PSG, Rabiot has plenty of experience in the Champions League and would be a safe signing to add to Arne Slot’s squad.

Liverpool looking to swoop in ahead of Premier League rivals

Manchester United have been linked to Rabiot frequently during the transfer window with reports suggesting that the Frenchman is keen on a move to the Premier League.

However, United have stepped up their pursuit of PSG’s Manuel Ugarte which could leave Rabiot available for Liverpool to swoop in and sign.

There had also been previous interest from Arsenal but it seems as though the Gunners are likely to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino instead.

Is Rabiot a second choice to Martin Zubimendi?

Liverpool had been pursuing Real Sociedad man Martin Zubimendi who looked destined to make the move to Anfield. However, the La Liga side demanded too much money for the 25-year-old in the view of the Reds who ended their interest.

Due to Zubimendi’s deal falling through, it could be that Arne Slot had Rabiot listed as a possible alternative to the Spaniard as someone they could feasibly get on the cheap.

However, it won’t be easy as Rabiot demands a hefty wage between £8.6m and £12.9m over three years.
