Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has said that he believes Trent Alexander-Arnold may be tempted to move to Real Madrid amid the club’s interest in him.
The wing-back has generated interest from the Spanish giants as he only has one year left on his contract at Anfield with reports that England teammate Jude Bellingham has tried to convince the 25-year-old to join him at Madrid.
Former Reds’ goalkeeper David James thinks that the Liverpool-born defender could be considering the move. He told fairbettingsites.co.uk: “Having suffered with plenty of criticism throughout the last few years – and this becomes a career thing rather than a momentary thing – I could understand if Trent wanted to go elsewhere like Real Madrid and look for a new challenge.
“There’s something about Jurgen Klopp leaving which could be seen as a slight line in the sand,” said James. “I don’t personally want him to leave, but I could understand how someone could say that this new era at Liverpool isn’t the world he’s used to.
“It will ultimately boil down to a conversation he has with Arne Slot. I’d rather he stays at Liverpool because if he’s going to be great at Real Madrid, then why not be great again for Liverpool?”
Liverpool set to offer new deal to Trent Alexander-Arnold
In an attempt to keep the 25-year-old, the Reds are set to offer him a new deal this summer to stave him away from any move to Real Madrid.
According to the Sun, Arne Slot is going to offer the fullback a big money deal to secure his status at Anfield, committing him to stay at the club for the Arne Slot era.
Alexander-Arnold is a boyhood Liverpool fan so it is highly unlikely he would want to join a PL rival like Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City or Newcastle United therefore the likes of Real Madrid would have to come in with an impressive offer to tempt him to move, however, the draw of playing at the Bernabeu every week could prove to be too much to turn down.
