REPORT: Liverpool And City Now ‘Keeping Tabs’ On Unsettled PL Striker Who Has Been Labelled The New Henry

Liverpool and Manchester City are both “keeping tabs” on Alexander Isak’s contract situation at Newcastle, according to TBRFootball.

The website reports the Swedish international’s entourage has been left “shocked” that negotiations over a new deal have been paused.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe revealed last month that the club had ended talks with Isak due to concerns over the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

However, TBR says there was also a dispute over a release clause that contributed to the breakdown in discussions.

Other Premier League teams hold an interest in Isak

Arsenal and Chelsea are also known to be keen on signing the striker but the two London clubs have been put off by Newcastle’s asking price in the past.

Along with Liverpool and City, they will be keeping a close eye on developments involving Isak. He may feel entitled to a new contract, considering his excellent performances and the fact that both Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon have recently put pen to paper on extensions.

It must be pointed out though that Newcastle are under no pressure to sell. When Isak moved to England from Real Sociedad in 2022, he signed an agreement that will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2028.

The Liverpool target has recently been compared to Henry

Speaking about Isak earlier this week, former England international Theo Walcot said that the 25-year-old has many of the same characteristics as Arsenal legend Thierry Henry:

“I would say he is this generation’s Henry, but with extra attributes in the air. That’s who I would compare him to from my era, anyway.”

“His game makes him a mix of Didier Drogba, Michael Owen and Henry – oh and with a dash of Theo Walcott’s pace out wide. That’s not a bad mix at all, is it?”
