Liverpool are looking to sign a centre-forward on top of their summer signings already to really cement their place at the top of the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s side have already added Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, but they want more, and have recently been linked to three different strikers who will replace Darwin Nunez up front.
Firstly, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who is expected to cost upwards of £120m. The Magpies maintain that he isn’t for sale, but Liverpool may be able to persuade the Swedish international to move to Anfield instead.
Second is Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who is also a target of Newcastle. Ekitike is expected to cost over £80m, and has previously been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United too.
Finally, Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was linked with Man United in the past. He is expected to be much cheaper with a fee around £40m to £50m reported on the Frenchman.
Liverpool told Isak is the “perfect addition”
Amid all their interest in signing a striker, Liverpool have been told by former Reds star John Aldridge which of the three strikers they should be going after this summer to replace Nunez.
Aldridge told BetBrain: “Liverpool have some thinking to do in regard to the centre forward position. If the club are going to replace Darwin Nunez, who are they going to bring in? Will Florian Wirtz play as a false nine? For me, Alexander Isak is the player on everyone’s mind and would be the perfect addition up front.
“He’d be a superb signing, but I can’t see Newcastle letting him go, and if they did, it would be for a huge fee. I don’t know what the club’s plans are, but they need to get something sorted before the start of the season.”
