Journalist Reveals Liverpool Are “Closing In’ On First Summer Signing After Fee is Agreed

Liverpool are “closing in” on the signature of Wolves centre-back Alvin Ayman, according to journalist David Lynch.

Writing for This Is Anfield, Lynch said the Reds are expected to seal the 15-year-old’s signature for around £1.5m, making him the first addition under new manager Arne Slot.

Due to his age, Wolves were due a significant amount of compensation for Ayman but there was optimism that an amicable agreement could be reached between the two sides.

The Merseysiders would have been able to snap up Ayman regardless but it does avoid the need for a tribunal which could have increased the size of the fee.

What do fans need to know about Ayman?

The defender had only been at Wolves a short time, having joined from Bradford City’s youth academy last August. He made appearances for both the Under 18s and Under 21s, with his performances having seemingly attracted the attention of Liverpool’s scouts.

Ayman is certainly far from ready for first-team duties and it’s expected that he will join Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s Under 18s initially as and when his signing is confirmed.

Are Liverpool close to signing any other players?

The Reds are interested in recruiting another centre-half, Lille’s Leny Yoro, but any deal for the Frenchman depends on whether a move to his first-choice destination, Real Madrid, collapses.

It is believed that sporting director Richard Hughes and his recruitment team are also on the lookout for a wide forward. A move for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams has been ruled out but the club have been heavily linked with the likes of Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville and PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko too.

There is likely to be more movement when the European Championships comes to an end. Players at international tournaments rarely begin transfer talks while their countries are still involved so fans may have to stay patient.
