The release clause in the contract of Liverpool target Antoine Semenyo is worth “more than” £65m, according to reports.
It has been claimed by The i Paper that the Reds are plotting a move for the Bournemouth winger in January, but in addition to the high fee, journalist Graeme Bailey told TBRFootball that there is also no guarantee that the clause can be triggered before the end of the season:
“Nobody at this point knows if the clause can be activated in January or not, but I am led to believe it is more than the Dominic Solanke clause, which was £65million and is someone willing to do that in the January window? It is unlikely.”
“Semenyo, for his part, is keeping quiet, but Bournemouth are making sure that the message is out there that Semenyo is not available.”
There will be competition for Semenyo
While Liverpool will be among the favourites for the 25-year-old’s signature if they do make a move for him, there will be plenty of other suitors, especially now that it is known there is a buyout fee.
Tottenham and Manchester United are believed to be among a host of teams keeping tabs on Semenyo’s situation.
Liverpool are looking to add more options out wide
Even if Arne Slot’s side do not pursue Semenyo in January, reinforcements on the flanks are likely to be brought in next summer.
A replacement for Luis Diaz has not been signed, while there are doubts over the long-term future of Mo Salah. The Egyptian will have one year left on his contract by the end of this campaign, and his form in recent weeks has been poor.
In addition to Semenyo, the Reds are said to be interested in Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, but the France international could cost around £90m.
