Liverpool will begin to start looking for a long-term replacement for winger Mo Salah, who has less than two years on his contract.
The Reds are in somewhat of a form crisis at the moment, with Arne Slot‘s side losing three games in a row, to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and most recently a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
It leaves Liverpool one point behind league leaders Arsenal, and desperate to improve their form after a string of poor performances from key players. One such name is Mo Salah, who has generated calls for Slot to drop him based on his recent form at Anfield.
Salah has scored just two goals in seven Premier League games so far this season, meaning he’s on track to score around 11 goals over the whole season. Compare that to last season when he scored 29 league goals, and it is cause for concern.
Slot is unlikely to drop Salah, but he should look to the transfer market to find a long-term replacement for the Egypt international in case his form really is taking a dive and he is nearing the latter stages of his career aged 33.
Liverpool should sign Semenyo to replace Salah
One name that Liverpool have been linked with is Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who has almost replaced Salah in terms of production in the Premier League this season.
The Bournemouth winger has scored six goals and provided three assists in seven Premier League games this season, showing himself to be one of the most exciting attacking players in the division.
According to Sky Sports, Bournemouth are preparing to receive bids for the 25-year-old, with named clubs interested being Liverpool, Man United and Tottenham. The Reds should ensure they get ahead of the rivals clubs and sign Semenyo to be the long-term Salah replacement at Anfield, as he is just about the perfect replacement for the 33-year-old.
The report has said that the Cherries have set a lofty £75m price tag on Semenyo, and so he could prove to be expensive, but let’s be honest, it was never going to be easy to replace Mo Salah.
