Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood claims that Liverpool should target either Fulham’s Antonee Robinson or Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez if they want to recruit a new left-back.
Question marks have been raised about Andy Robertson’s long-term future and, speaking to Lucky Block, Sherwood said there are “two standout options” available to the Reds:
“I’m not sure if many clubs will let go of their best players in January, but Liverpool have a few emerging options to go for in that left-back position in the long term. Antonee Robinson at Fulham and Milos Kerkez at Bournemouth are two standout options who are all gettable for a club like Liverpool.”
“I wouldn’t write off Andy Robertson just yet, but Liverpool will obviously be thinking about the long run as well, so it will be interesting to see which player they turn to.”
Robertson’s form for Liverpool is concerning
While Sherwood seems to be playing down the need to replace the club’s current first-choice left-back to some extent, Andy Robertson’s performances in recent months have been rather poor.
The Scotland captain has been sent off this season, has given away two penalties as well as being at fault for Manchester United’s second goal at the weekend. A replacement is long overdue.
Kerkez is a more likely target than Robinson
While Sherwood has picked out two of the most in-form left-backs playing in the Premier League, Liverpool are not likely to go after one one of them.
Antonee Robinson will turn 28 at the start of next season so he isn’t that much younger than Robertson and he could cost a substantial sum too. Kerkez, on the other hand, is a different matter.
The Hungarian international is valued above £40m and he has been linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea, but he is a promising young fullback who is only a couple of months past his 21st birthday.
