Liverpool And Arsenal Both Target 23 y/o Midfielder Who Has Been Described As A “Top Talent” By Steven Gerrard

Liverpool have been joined by Arsenal in their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been on the Reds’ radar for quite some time but, following an improvement in his performances, TBRFootball claim that the Merseysiders and their Premier League title rivals have taken a keen interest.

Ramsey has had his issues with injuries over the past couple of years, but many regard him as a player who could go on to do big things in the future if he can stay fit.

In recent months, the former England Under 21 international has begun to start more games, having scored his first Premier League goal of the season against West Ham at the end of January.

A Liverpool legend is a big fan of Ramsey

Speaking back in 2022 when he was in charge of Aston Villa, Reds icon Steven Gerrard said that the Villa star has the ability to play for his country at senior level:

“I know the level of the England players, I’ve been around it, and have enough experience to know it’s only a matter of time, but let’s all be sensible and keep calm about it. I want him to make his own headlines with his football. He is a top talent.”

The Reds are expected to target a different type of midfielder

Ramsey is usually deployed as a No.10 or on the left-hand side of a front three. Head coach Arne Slot is not exactly short of options in either position.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are all available to play behind the striker while there are a wealth of players capable of playing on the left flank.

If Liverpool do go into the market for a midfielder in the summer, the club are likely to pursue someone who can provide cover for Ryan Gravenberch.
