Liverpool To Begin Negotiations For £50m Bundesliga Star Battling Other Suitors

Liverpool are to begin negotiations with Bayern Munich to sign versatile defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

The Reds are looking to overcome competition from both Manchester City and United to sign Kimmich as Arne Slot’s first addition to what is a talented Liverpool squad.

The midfielder was moved into the full back position whilst Thomas Tuchel was in charge, but it is understood that his future is uncertain now that Vincent Kompany has taken the reigns at Bayern Munich.

Kimmich’s value is estimated to be around £50 million and FourFourTwo are reporting that Liverpool are opening talks to try and land the 29 year-old’s signature.

What does it mean for Liverpool?

Slot’s interest in Kimmich means one of two things. Either that the new Liverpool boss aims to bring in the Bayern man as a central midfielder which was initially his natural position. Or that he anticipates that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be on his way out as his contract expires next summer.

Kimmich can play either in midfield or as a right back, but FourFourTwo believe that his role would be more in central midfield should he make the move to Anfield.

How likely is Kimmich to make the move to Liverpool?

It would prove to be a huge career move for the German leaving the Bundesliga for the Premier League to join such a famous club as the Reds. Kimmich he has been at Bayern Munich since 2015 and has made almost 400 appearances for the club, scoring 42 goals and providing over 100 assists.

The German international is currently on duty with his national team at Euro 2024 and so it would be suprising to see a move get done before he returns. Man United have also been strongly linked with a move for Kimmich throughout the season as they look to replace Casemiro in their midfield. City have a well-documented interest in the player too.

If Kompany is not keen on keeping him around, it may not take long for Liverpool to make an agreement with Bayern Munich and Kimmich could be on the move as soon as he is finished with the national team as long as the Reds can beat out the interest of the Red-Devils.
