Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is not expected to join Chelsea this summer, according to reports.
There has been speculation that the Blues want the Republic of Ireland international to be their new No.1 but the Daily Mail claim those stories are wide of the mark.
The English tabloid say that several other Premier League teams are vying for Kelleher’s services, with Bournemouth believed to be among the leading contenders at the moment.
The 26-year-old is set to become third choice this summer following Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival from Valencia, and it is widely expected that he will leave Anfield on a permanent basis over the coming weeks.
Liverpool could use Bournemouth’s interest to their advantage
The Reds are known to be keen on signing several players from the South Coast club. The Mail name Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo as possible targets.
No talks are expected with the Cherries until after the final game of the season but there could be the potential for a swap deal involving Kelleher and one of the trio.
Kelleher has been praised as an “outstanding” keeper
The Irishman has done very little wrong when handed opportunities over the past three seasons. Speaking after the keeper played in the Reds’ 1-0 win against RB Leipzig back in October, former player Steve McManaman was full of praise for his performance:
“It’s almost disrespectful calling him a number two, because of course, he does play second in command when Alisson is fit, but he’s played too many games now to be associated as one. He’s an outstanding goalkeeper, outstanding when called upon.”
Alisson’s consistency and the arrival of Mamardashvili does, however, mean that Kelleher will be forced to look elsewhere to get the game time he needs.
