Liverpool are very much still “in the race” to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Reports have surfaced in recent days suggesting that Chelsea are the frontrunners for the Spanish international, but writing on his X account, Romano said:
“Dean Huijsen has not decided his next club yet as £50m release clause will surely be triggered. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal still ALL in the race talking to his camp.”
“Bayern keen since January but depends on sales; Real Madrid haven’t decided whether they want new CB or not.”
Signing Huijsen would be a big coup for the Reds
The 19-year-old is one of the most promising talents in European football and his signature could help reinforce the defence for the next decade or more.
Captain Virgil van Dijk may have signed a contract extension until 2027 but he is nearing the end of his career at the top level.
Huijsen could potentially be signed as the Dutch colossus’s successor and his arrival may prove to be hugely important for the long-term success of Merseyside club.
Liverpool still need to persuade the player
Based on Romano’s marks, it seems as if the centre-back’s future is far from being decided. The fact that Arne Slot’s side are holding talks with Huijsen’s representatives means they are clearly determined to snap him up ahead of the competition.
Of course, the involvement of both Arsenal and Chelsea means this could be a tough battle to win. It remains to be seen what factors will determine which team Huijsen joins.
The Reds are set to become Premier League champions and they have already qualified for the Champions League so that could help sway the player. For now, though, Huijsen is still weighing up his options.
