Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku this summer with his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.
The Reds are likely to sign at least one attacker in the summer due to the uncertain future of striker Darwin Nunez. Plus, Diogo Jota has seen a lot of injury problems this season, meaning Arne Slot may want reinforcements.
Nkunku could be moving on this summer as he has struggled to find consistent game time under Enzo Maresca this season.
According to a report by TBR journalist Graeme Bailey, Liverpool are reportedly one of several teams to speak with the attacker over a potential move this summer. He said: “As it stands, I am told that a move to Europe is the most likely option – but his people are touching base with clubs in England.
“Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all been spoken to in the past few months. Chelsea want to recoup as much of their plus £50m outlay, but that looks difficult at this juncture.”
Nkunku has made 27 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Liverpool may be able to tempt him to come to Anfield, considering they won the league this year, and have guaranteed Champions League football over the likes of Man United, Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Enzo Maresca has been in praise of Nkunku, saying how versatile the attacker is. He told the Metro: “He can play everywhere, he can play everywhere. He is one of the players that in these two weeks [of pre-season] is doing very, very well.”
Nkunku could be a cheaper option to Osimhen
Liverpool have also been linked to signing Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who is on loan from Napoli. The Nigerian striker has also been linked to Chelsea and Manchester United.
Osimhen’s form this season has been superb, however, he has a £63m release clause, a hefty investment, whereas the Reds could take the cheaper option and sign Nkunku, who already has Premier League experience.
