Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo is “being actively offered” to other clubs, according to reports.
The Netherlands international has struggled to find his best form this season, despite starting 34 matches in all competitions (including the 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday).
Gakpo has scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists, which is not necessarily a terrible return, but it is a major backwards step compared to last season.
Despite starting fewer games (32 in total) during the title-winning campaign, the forward found the back of the net 18 times and created 7 goals for his teammates.
TEAMtalk claims that the Reds are willing to let him go this summer due to the regression in his form.
Are there any teams keen on taking Gakpo?
Tottenham are one of the clubs believed to be hoping to sign the Dutchman, although their interest will obviously hinge on them staying in the Premier League.
On the continent, RB Leipzig, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Napoli are said to be keeping tabs on Gakpo’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Who could Liverpool sign to replace him?
The Merseysiders have a longstanding interest in Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, although the Magpies are not expected to make things easy if an approach is made for the 24-year-old. He does not have a release clause.
RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche are the other wingers being watched. Ostensibly, the pair are being eyed as potential replacements for Mo Salah, but Diomande (in particular) is just as comfortable playing on the left flank.
It does appear as if Gakpo’s days at Anfield could be numbered. His struggles this season have been symptomatic of what has been a limp title defence by Arne Slot’s men. They currently sit 5th in the table, on 49 points after 31 matches played.
