Journalist Reveals Darwin Nunez’s Transfer Stance As He Claims His Agent “Wants Him To Leave Liverpool”

Darwin Nunez is not pressing for a move away from Liverpool, according to Radio Fenix journalist Nicolas Saavedra.

Speaking on the Mas que Pelotas podcast (quotes translated by Sport Witness), Saavedra said that Nunez isn’t focused on leaving Anfield at the moment:

“[Nunez] is not urgently thinking about an exit. His priority at the moment is the Copa America.”

However, Saavedra asserted that Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes has other ideas, stating that the striker’s representative is very keen for him to switch clubs this summer:

“Mendes wants him to leave Liverpool. He’s a footballer whom he holds in very high regard and he has other aspirations for him.”

Who could Nunez join if he decides to leave Liverpool?

Barcelona have been suggested as a potential destination in recent days, but it’s very unlikely that the Catalan club have the money required to sign the forward, due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Chelsea have also been linked with Nunez on and off since last summer, but you wouldn’t think that the Reds would be open to selling him to a direct rival.

A lot could still depend on Arne Slot

Although Jurgen Klopp’s successor is not expected to be in sole charge of transfers, he will have some say on whether certain stars leave Anfield over the coming months.

Slot has shown with Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord that he is good at getting the most out of a no.9, and he may feel he can work his magic on Nunez.

However, if the Uruguayan doesn’t want to stay on Merseyside then it would be best for all parties if a buyer is found. With Liverpool likely to be keen on recouping most of their £85m investment in the player, there will only be a limited number of teams who can afford him.
