‘Madness’ ‘We Couldn’t Sell Him If We Tried’ Liverpool Fans React As David Ornstein Makes Major Transfer Claim

Liverpool are highly unlikely to sell Darwin Nunez this summer, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

Writing in a Q&A, the trusted journalist said that the Uruguayan international won’t be offloaded as the club wouldn’t make the £85m they spent back on the player:

“I very much doubt Nunez will be leaving. Whatever you think of his form recently, he has shown himself to be a good player for club and country, he is still young, Liverpool wouldn’t make any / much profit from selling him now and there is clear potential, in my opinion, for him to have a successful career at Anfield.”

Fans on X are rather disappointed that Nunez, who has flattered to deceive during his two seasons at Anfield, will be staying beyond this campaign:

Why are supporters so unhappy with Nunez?

You only have to look at the numbers to see why fans have begun to turn on the 24-year-old. He may have scored 18 goals in all competitions this season but his finishing has been pretty atrocious.

Nunez has scored 4.7 fewer goals than his xG in the Premier League this season. That’s even worse than his first campaign at the club when he underperformed by 3.1.

Liverpool could sell other players

While Nunez appears to be staying on Merseyside, there are bigger question marks over the future of players such as Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

All three players are closing in on the final year of their contracts so the Reds will have to decide on whether to sell or hand them new deals. Out of three, it is felt that Salah is the most likely to move on to pasture’s new.
