Liverpool might target Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is regarded by many as the top candidate, having seen a move to Anfield collapse on Deadline Day earlier this month.
However, speaking to Rousing the Kop, Bailey suggested that Upamecano may also come under consideration:
“I think Marc Guehi is their first choice, but it wouldn’t shock me if Dayot Upamecano becomes available and Liverpool are interested. Konate, Guehi and Upamecano are all at a similar level. I do know Liverpool looked at him previously; they know all about him.”
The majority of supporters on X are not particularly keen on the Reds making an approach for Upamecano:
No thanks

He is rubbish!

our defensive demands are beyond his grasp, he lacks pace, physicality & his ability to read the game is sub par, which is why bayern went out & got Tah to marshal their backline

Upamecano could be available on a free transfer
The 26-year-old’s contract at Bayern does expire at the end of the season, so he could be snapped up on a free, just like Guehi.
Upamecano does earn substantially more than his English counterpart, though, with his salary being around £166,000 a week, while Guehi takes home just £50,000.
What is the latest on Konate’s future at Liverpool
The Reds are believed to be still trying to tie down the centre-half to a new deal, although the prospect of him leaving at the end of the campaign increases with every passing week he doesn’t sign on the dotted line.
Real Madrid are seen as Konate’s likeliest destination, although there are conflicting reports coming out of Spain. Some sources suggest that Arsenal’s William Saliba is their no.1 target, although he would cost substantially more to sign.
