Bournemouth defender and Liverpool target Dean Huijsen’s “most probable” destination this summer is “another Premier League club”, according to journalist David Ornstein.
It has been reported that the Spanish international would prefer a move to Real Madrid, but when responding to a question in a Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein said:
“It has been well documented that Real Madrid held great appeal for Huijsen growing up and they do like him, but I don’t know of them actively working on it and therefore – at the time of writing – it looks most probable he will join another Premier League club.”
“I think there’s a desire on the part of Bournemouth and the player to have this situation decided as soon as possible. The £50m release clause makes it a clean and potentially quick deal to do, which we’ve seen Liverpool capitalise on in the past.”
Liverpool have held talks with the defender’s entourage
In addition to confirming that Huijsen will likely stay in England, Ornstein revealed that the Reds have been holding discussions with the 19-year-old’s representatives this week.
It is believed that the Merseysiders have a strong interest in the defender, with the intention of potentially partnering him with captain Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence.
3 clubs are leading the race for Huijsen’s signature
In addition to Liverpool, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham are also said to be keen on snapping up the teenager.
However, the feeling is that the first three are currently the main contenders to secure Huijsen’s services.
The player himself has spoken out about his future this week. He confirmed the existence of his release clause but he refused to be drawn on where he will be playing next season.
It does seem as if Bournemouth are hoping to settle the matter sooner rather than later, and if every team involved is willing to pay £50m, it will be down to Huijsen to decide which club he wants to join.
