“Not His Only Admirers” – Journalist Says Liverpool And United May Join Arsenal In Pursuing Dutch International

Liverpool are among the clubs keeping tabs on Ajax fullback Devyne Rensch, according to CBS Sports reporter James Benge.

The journalist claims that Arsenal have sent their scouts to watch the Netherlands international in action but they are “not his only admirers” with the Reds and Manchester United also interested in the player.

Rensch has been a regular starter for Ajax since making his first-team breakthrough during the 2020/21 season.

Despite still only being 20 years of age, he has already made 111 appearances in all competitions at senior level, suggesting he could be ready to make the step up from the Eredivisie to the Premier League.

A replacement for Alexander-Arnold at right-back?

With Trent Alexander-Arnold being deployed more and more regularly in midfield by manager Jurgen Klopp, it stands to reason that Liverpool would be seeking additional options on the right-hand side of defence.

Rensch would be suited to the inverted fullback role too, having played as a centre-half on a number of occasions for Ajax.

Will Liverpool make a move for Rensch in January?

With both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas sidelined with injuries, Alexander-Arnold’s current understudy, Joe Gomez, is having to cover at left-back.

It does raise concerns about what the Reds would do if Alexander-Arnold was also to get injured. With the lack of senior fullbacks available to Klopp, it may be a good idea to recruit a player like Rensch this month.

The Reds are not exactly averse to signing players during the January transfer window if there is a good reason to do so. However, while Rensch is someone who is being watched by the club’s scouts, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are seriously weighing up a bid for the defender at this stage.
