Liverpool May Have The Edge Over Arsenal In £150M Transfer Race As Makeweight Emerges For Potential Swap Deal

Newcastle are keen on signing Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs said there is a chance that the Portuguese international will be allowed to leave Anfield this summer with the Magpies among his suitors:

“What I can tell you in terms of clubs that are closely looking at Jota, is that you have Newcastle United from the Premier League. A Jota exit is not guaranteed, but there is a realistic possibility that suitors will make an approach to Liverpool to better understand the situation.

“Wolves may be interested, but Jota wants European and, ideally Champions League football. Newcastle may be able to offer him that.”

Could Newcastle’s interest in Jota have implications for Isak?

If the Reds striker is a genuine target for Eddie Howe’s side, it opens up the possibility for the 27-year-old to be used as a potential makeweight in another transfer.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Merseyside club are competing with Arsenal for the signature of Alexander Isak.

Bringing down the cost of signing Isak will be a priority for Liverpool

With Newcastle said to be demanding as much as £150m for their No.9, it would stand to reason that the Reds would consider using Jota as part of any formal bid.

A similar type of proposal was made for Anthony Gordon last year, when Joe Gomez was tipped to move in the other direction to St. James’ Park.

Of course, a lot would depend on Jota’s interest in joining the Magpies, in addition to whether the two sides agree on his value. The question is, if Liverpool offer around £100m plus Jota for Isak, would that be an acceptable amount? We are in the realms of wild speculation here, but it is a type of deal that may be seriously explored.
