Liverpool can sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen for €40m (£34m), according to CaughtOffside.com.
The Netherlands international has a release clause in his contract, which would make it easier for the Reds to secure his signature.
There is a possibility that Malen could be snapped up below that figure but that would depend on Dortmund’s willingness to sell the forward.
Liverpool have a longstanding interest in the 25-year-old, having been originally linked with the player when he was still at PSV Eindhoven.
However, Malen moved to Germany for €30m three years ago and, while it has taken some time for him to find his feet in the Bundesliga, he enjoyed a good 2023/24 campaign. In all competitions, the Dutchman scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists in 38 appearances for Dortmund.
Will Liverpool make a move for Malen?
The Reds are said to see him as a potential backup option for Mo Salah on the right wing. The club are definitely looking to bring in a wide forward this summer.
Even so, it would be a surprise if they are willing to pay over £30m for someone who may only play a bit-part role in Arne Slot’s squad.
Arsenal are deemed favourites to sign him
Caught Offside claim that Liverpool are not the only Premier League club interested in Malen. They say Arsenal also hold an interest in the player, who could take some of the workload off Bukayo Saka.
It is believed that the Gunners do hold the advantage in the race for the Dortmund star as his “preference” would be to make the switch to the Emirates. One of the reasons why he is keen on joining the London club is because he spent some time playing in their academy before he moved to PSV.
