Liverpool and Manchester City are both contemplating late bids for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, according to The Independent (via TBR).
It is believed that the likes of Arsenal have already withdrawn from the race to sign the 26-year-old, whose asking price is now well in excess of the £60m release clause that expired earlier this month.
However, the Reds and City are still reportedly keen to fight it out over Eze. Understandably, fans on X are very sceptical about this latest report:
I dont believe this

Why didn’t Liverpool pursue him when the buyout clause was active?
It was confirmed by multiple journalists (including Fabrizio Romano) just over a week ago that Eze’s £60m release fee expired at 5 pm on August 16th.
If the Reds were aware of this deadline, the question you have to ask is why they didn’t go after the England international earlier.
A no.6 is the club’s main priority
Eze is not a holding midfielder so he wouldn’t top of the list of targets that head coach Arne Slot would want to sign anyway.
After failing to secure the services of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, you would hope that the recruitment department is still searching for a potential alternative before the transfer window closes.
As things stand, it looks as though Giorgi Mamardashvili may be the only new addition this summer.
