Liverpool are interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to Tuttosport.
The Italian newspaper claims that the Reds have been scouting the Brazilian, in addition to Teun Koopmeiners, in recent months, and they are now “planning an attack” to recruit the player this summer.
Ederson caught the eye with his performance during Atalanta’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final last week. During the coverage for TNT Sports, former England international Owen Hargreaves waxed lyrical about the midfielder’s work rate and predicted that he would be a target for other clubs:
“Ederson, 24 years old, someone is going to pick him up by the way. This is a conveyor belt of talent [at Atalanta], selling players and they’ve done an amazing job with him, he looks tailor-made for anybody’s midfield, he’s like two players in there.”
That is the type of player Liverpool have been missing in the middle of the park so it is understandable why the club are pursuing him.
Ederson has plenty of suitors
Tuttosport are not the only publication to claim that Liverpool have been watching the 24-year-old, with reports in Brazil back in January also confirming that there is interest from the Reds.
However, it was claimed that Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain were keeping tabs on Ederson as well.
Liverpool will have to pay a substantial fee to sign the player
It is believed that Atalanta are reluctant to lose both Ederson and Koopmeiners in the same summer, and the Serie A side are said to be more determined to keep hold of the former.
There is reportedly a release clause in the Brazilian’s contract but the exact figure is not known. Arne Slot‘s team may, therefore, be forced to pay a sizeable sum if they want to secure his services over the coming weeks.
