Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca claims that Liverpool showed their “intention” to win both the Premier League and the Champions League this season after splashing out £400m+ on new signings.
The Reds have yet to integrate all of their summer recruits, but they have still managed to win all 5 of their league fixtures so far.
Maresca admits Arne Slot’s side will be very difficult to stop if they carry on in a similar vein for the rest of the season:
“If they [Liverpool] continue in this way, I think it is impossible to catch them, not just for us, but for all the clubs. They have been doing a fantastic job since last year, and the players they have decided to buy shows the intention of the club to go again for the Premier League and the Champions League, and that is quite clear.”
Can Slot get the most out of Isak and Wirtz?
Despite their results, the Merseyside club’s two record signings, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, haven’t really got going yet.
Isak has fitness issues and Hugo Ekitike was selected ahead of him for the 2-1 win over Everton at the weekend, while Wirtz was also named on the bench.
Slot’s men seem to be playing their best football without the pair at the moment, so it will be up to Slot to integrate them both as quickly as possible.
Liverpool will face Chelsea soon
It won’t be long before the Premier League champions take on Maresca’s team. They travel to Stamford Bridge at the start of October.
Before that fixture, the Reds will face Southampton at home in the Carabao Cup, Crystal Palace away in the Premier League this weekend and Galatasaray away in the Champions League next Tuesday.
