Liverpool are one of five Premier League clubs scouting Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, according to HITC Football.
The Denmark Under 21 international has established himself as the Yellow Submarine’s first-choice this season, having moved up from the club’s B team in January last year.
Jorgensen’s record as the La Liga side’s No.1 is not that impressive on paper, having kept just 4 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals in 29 league matches.
However, he is only 21 years of age and he has impressed with his maturity between the sticks for Villarreal over the last eight months.
Caomihin Kelleher has been the Reds’ first-choice keeper in recent weeks, with Alisson Becker sidelined with injury, but he is expected to press for a move away from Anfield this summer.
With that being the case, Liverpool’s recruitment department have looked at the transfer market for possible replacements and it seems as if Jorgensen has come onto their radar.
As mentioned, the Reds are not the only club interested in Jorgensen. HITC report that Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle and Wolves have also been monitoring the Dane’s progress over the course of this season.
City are looking to replace Stefan Ortega, who will have one year left on his contract at the end of the campaign. Arsenal, meanwhile, are in the market for a new No.2 with Aaron Ramsdale unhappy that he has lost his place to David Raya.
At the moment, it appears Liverpool are just watching Jorgensen, and it’s likely any bid will only be tabled once there is more clarity on Kelleher’s future at the Merseyside club in the coming months.
