Liverpool are reportedly willing to break the British transfer record again and sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The Reds have all but confirmed the £116m signing of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz, which is a British record in terms of the transfer fee. The German is set to make the Reds’ attack even more threatening which has to be a scary thought for fellow Premier League sides.
However, they had also previously been linked to signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, alongside title rivals Arsenal, but this stalled after the Magpies made it clear that the Swedish international was not for sale.
But according to a fresh report by the Mirror, Liverpool are willing to break the British transfer record again, by making a move for Isak, and are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign what is their ‘dream’ target this summer.
Isak was superb for Eddie Howe’s side last season, scoring 27 goals in 42 games; only Mo Salah scored more goals than Isak in the Premier League last season. He would be the replacement for Darwin Nunez, who could be on the move this summer.
Liverpool also considering Man United target striker
Isak isn’t the only number nine that Arne Slot is reportedly considering this summer either, as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen remains a target for Liverpool.
Osimhen has been most strongly linked with Manchester United in the Premier League as he is due to leave Napoli this summer following a season on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray.
The Nigerian international was yet again one of the most clinical goal scorers in Europe last season, he netted 26 goals in 30 league games for Galatasaray.
It is more likely that the Reds will go after Osimhen if they find that a deal for Isak is impossible, which it seems like it will be based on Newcastle’s stance on selling the 25-year-old.
