Liverpool Target 31 G/A Forward Who Could Take The Same Path As Mo Salah

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Sporting Lisbon forward Francisco Trincao, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The 26-year-old has had an excellent season, having scored 13 goals and provided 18 assists in all competitions.

Portuguese tabloid Record claim that the Reds are “attentive” to Trincao’s situation.

The forward is left-footed, and while he has played most of his football as a no.10 this campaign, he can be deployed on both wings too.

Trincao has already had one failed season in England

The Portuguese international was loaned out by Barcelona to Wolves for the 2021/22 campaign, but he struggled during his time at Molineux.

Trincao scored just 3 goals and contributed only 1 assist in 30 appearances before returning to the Camp Nou. He was eventually sold to Sporting for €18m in the summer of 2023.

Of course, the forward is not the only one who has had issues adapting to English football. Mo Salah had the same experience, having failed to make the grade at Chelsea prior to Liverpool snapping him up in 2017.

It is up for debate whether Trincao could return for a successful second spell like Salah, but it seems the Reds’ scouts see him as a legitimate target for the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have prioritised a move for another forward

While Trincao is clearly on the club’s radar, it does appear as if the main focus for sporting director Richard Hughes is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

The Merseysiders are confident that they are frontrunners for the Ivorian’s signature, with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham having cooled their interest.

Paris Saint-Germain still pose a big threat, while agreeing a transfer fee for Diomande is also an issue. Leipzig are currently demanding €100m (£86m) for the teenager.
