Paul Joyce Names The £30M Player Who Liverpool Have A “Strong Chance” Of Signing Before The Transfer Deadline

Liverpool are actively looking to bring in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to The Times reporter Paul Joyce.

The trusted journalist was speaking to Born N’Red on Playback when he confirmed that the Reds are hoping to sign the Georgian international this month:

“I think Liverpool will go for him…There’s obviously a longstanding interest in him. The reported transfer fee of around £30m is very good value.”

“I think it is a signing that Michael Edwards/Richard Hughes want for the future – ‘future-proofing’ for want of a better phrase – so I do think something will happen with it but I don’t quite know at this stage whether he just stays with Valencia or how that all works out.”

“I don’t think he comes and sits on the bench for Liverpool in 24/25 if that’s your question but I do think there’s a strong chance that they will end up getting him, yeah.”

Mamardashvili WON’T be loaned out to Bournemouth

Fabrizio Romano, among others, have stated that the Reds could look to loan the keeper out straightaway to Bournemouth if they do sign him. However, Joyce confirmed that Premier League rules prevent them from doing something like that.

As he mentions, it’s probably more likely that Mamardashvili will remain at Valencia for one more year or he could potentially join another European club.

Liverpool may not bring anyone else in

Much to the frustration of fans, Joyce also reiterated remarks that the Reds do not have any other players lined up to join the club before the transfer deadline on August 30th.

The recruitment team have no alternative for Martin Zubimendi in mind and it looks like a centre-back won’t be signed either, despite being interested in Leny Yoro before he made the switch to Manchester United earlier this summer.
