Liverpool have made enquiries for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer “in recent weeks”, according to journalist Mirko Di Natale.
The TuttoJuve.com reporter says that the Reds and Bayern Munich have joined Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for the Brazilian international.
However, Di Natale does claim that Juve will hold out for “at least” €70m (£59m), which may make any deal tougher to negotiate.
Bremer is already 27 and you do question whether the Reds would be willing to put that amount of money on the table for someone his age.
Liverpool are in the market for a centre-half
Arne Slot‘s side have been looking at potential targets to strengthen the middle of defence. Lille’s Leny Yoro is someone who is of interest to the recruitment team but many assume that the teenager will end up at Real Madrid.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is another name that keeps cropping up, and he would actually cost a similar amount to Bremer. The England international does, though, have age on his side. He is still only 23.
Another player based in Italy, Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, has also been linked, but the Reds’ interest has been downplayed.
It could be a quiet transfer window
All the talk coming out of Anfield at the moment seems to suggest that Slot wants to assess his squad in pre-season before deciding on whether he needs to bring in any new additions.
Some fans may be disappointed by the lack of signings, but Slot will be keen to ensure players are only brought in if they can improve on what he already has.
From the look of things, we may see activity from Liverpool later on in the summer if it becomes clear that Slot is light of options in certain positions.
