‘Must Be A Buy Back Clause Involved’ ‘Rogers Next Summer’ Liverpool Fans Issue Verdict On Shock £35M Deal

Aston Villa are set to sign Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott on loan with an obligation to buy for £35m at the end of the season, according to reports.

The Athletic claim that the 22-year-old is poised to secure his move to Villa Park ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday evening.

Supporters on X have been left scratching their heads as to why Elliott has been allowed to leave for a pretty modest transfer fee:

Aston Villa’s interest has come out of the blue

West Ham and RB Leipzig have both held talks about signing Elliott this summer, while former club Fulham were also said to be interested.

Up until now, Villa had not really been mentioned as a contender, but it appears that their failure to land Lucas Paqueta led to them switching targets.

Could Liverpool have a buyback clause?

Some fans are speculating that the Reds may have an option to buy back Elliott in the future. It is believed that the Merseyside club had set a price tag of £40m with a buyback clause and £50m without one.

The fact that the midfielder has been allowed to leave for below those two figures suggests there is more to this deal than meets the eye.
