Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has named Hugo Ekitike as one of his top three signings of the summer transfer window.

Writing in his column for Caught Offside, Collymore said the £69m recruit from Eintracht Frankfurt has the potential to be a superb addition for the Reds:

“I like Ekitike. I think he does a lot of things very well. He holds the ball up well. He can run in behind. He’s got really good feet. He’s a physical presence.”

“And I know that all of the lights have been shined on Isak and also Wirtz. But I think that Ekitike that might be the one that is the solid 8/10 over his Liverpool career.”

Ekitike has had a great start to his Liverpool career

The Frenchman has found the back of the net 3 times and provided 1 assist in 4 appearances since his summer move from Frankfurt.

Whether Ekitike will go on to outshine Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz – who cost a combined £241m – it remains to be seen, but the early signs look good that he will be an improvement on Darwin Nunez, who left Anfield for Saudi Arabia last month.

Collymore also named his two other best signings

The former striker chose Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha and Nottingham Forest’s Dan Ndoye among the other purchases he rates this summer.

Cunha has yet to get off the mark for the Red Devils since securing his switch from Wolves, and he picked up a hamstring injury during the 3-2 win over Burnley last week.

Ndoye, meanwhile, also plays for one of Collymore’s former clubs, so it is not a complete surprise that the Swiss international has been picked. The winger has scored 1 goal and contributed 1 assist in his 3 games for Forest so far this campaign.
