Romano Reveals Liverpool Star Could Join One Of 4 Clubs After Shock Transfer Twist

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has four clubs pursuing his signature, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

It is now expected that the French international will leave Anfield next month when his contract expires.

Konate spoke out in April to suggest a new deal was close to being signed, but no final agreement was reached.

Posting on X, Romano did not name all four teams that could now make a move for the 27-year-old, but he did mention Real Madrid:

Reports in France have named Bayern Munich and Chelsea as other potential suitors.

Why did contract negotiations with Konate collapse?

Romano claims that the centre-back’s agent had agreed a basic salary with the Reds, along with the length of the new deal.

However, the two parties could not find a compromise on the bonus structure, and that ultimately led to talks coming to an end earlier this month.

Konate has not come out to confirm he is leaving the club, but that is likely to happen soon.

Are Liverpool going to replace him?

At the moment, the word coming out of the club is that the Reds will put their faith in new signing Jeremy Jacquet, as well as Giovanni Leoni.

Neither defender has much experience, and there will be concerns heading into next season about how they will cope partnering an ageing Virgil van Dijk.

You can’t completely rule out a new centre-half being signed, but sporting director Richard Hughes is expected to use the majority of the club’s transfer budget on recruiting forwards.
