Liverpool Have Made ‘Enquiries’ For South American Starlet Who Has Made Just 12 Senior Appearances

Liverpool are interested in signing Fluminense midfielder Isaac, according to reports in the Brazilian media.

Globo Esporte claim that the Reds and Manchester City have made “enquiries” about the 18-year-old, who has only made 12 senior appearances in his career so far.

Neither Premier League club have so far stepped up their pursuit of Isaac by tabling an official bid, but another European team has.

Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk have offered €7m (£6m) for the teenager, but Fluminense rejected the proposal.

There is a feeling that Shakhtar will return to the negotiating table, so Liverpool may have to move fast if they want to snap up Isaac.

What do Liverpool fans need to know about the young Brazilian?

The youngster came through Fluminense’s youth system before making his first-team debut against Sampaio-RJ in the Carioca Championship back in January.

Isaac has subsequently gone on to play in Brazil’s Serie A, the Brazilian Cup and the Copa Sudamericana. He also flew out to the United States to take part in the Club World Cup.

While the Brazilian youth international did not play at the tournament, he did make the substitutes’ bench for the semi-final against Chelsea.

Isaac has already played in several different positions

It is fair to say that the midfielder has not yet settled into playing one specific role. While he is ostensibly an attacking midfielder, Fluminense head coach Renato Gaucho has deployed him as a No.6, a No. 8, a No.10 and on the right wing.

Isaac hasn’t scored or provided an assist at professional level so far, but it is clear that scouts believe he possesses a lot of potential.

We shall see if he follows the path of numerous other Brazilians by joining Shakhtar or whether he will be signed by the Reds.
