Liverpool transfer target Jamal Musiala has made it a “priority” to stay at Bayern Munich, denting Arne Slot side’s chances of signing the midfielder, according to Caught Offside.
The website reports that the Reds have become “increasingly interested” in the German international due to the player’s contract situation.
Musiala has less than two years left on his current deal and, so far, no breakthrough with Bayern has been found to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.
For the time being, though, it looks like the 21-year-old has communicated to potential suitors (such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain) that he is still keen on remaining where he is.
What is the latest on Musiala’s contract talks?
Speaking about the former Chelsea academy player earlier this week, Bayern president Herbert Hainer said:
“We want to try everything to keep him as long as possible. In my opinion, he could become the second Thomas Muller. He could stay here for the next 20 years.”
Bayern’s determination to retain Musiala’s services is clear but, as already mentioned, it’s obvious that negotiations are not progressing as smoothly as they would like at the moment.
Liverpool won’t have to pay Bayern’s eyewatering price tag
Caught Offside have also made the absurd claim that Musiala’s club would demand as much as €180m (£152m) if they are forced to sell the German in a future transfer window.
However, Musiala will only have a year left on his contract at the end of the season so there is no way that Bayern could hold out for that amount.
Something like £50m to £70m would be more realistic if we look at other players who have been sold in the final 12 months of their deals in recent seasons. It seems like Musiala would still prefer to remain in Germany but it is a situation to keep a close eye on.
