Borussia Dortmund would “prefer to sell” Liverpool transfer target Jamie Gittens to a club abroad, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, the journalist claimed that Bayern Munich are also in contention to sign the 20-year-old but Dortmund’s stance will hand the advantage to teams in the Premier League:
“It’s true. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are also in the transfer race with Bayern for Jamie Gittens. Dortmund’s management is understood to prefer to sell the player to an overseas club in order to avoid strengthening rivals Bayern Munich.”
“FC Bayern are still taking the competition with English clubs very seriously and hope that BVB will be forced into selling Gittens should they fail to qualify for Champions League football in 2025/26.”
“Dortmund are currently looking for a transfer fee of €100m. Should Premier League clubs bid for the Englishman, Bayern are aware that completing a transfer on their end will be difficult.”
Liverpool have been scouting the winger
Falk is not the only journalist to credit the Reds with an interest in Gittens. Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arne Slot’s side have sent scouts to watch the England Under 21 international in recent months, along with Chelsea.
Considering he is a right-footed left-winger, though, you would have to think that the club’s pursuit of the player is dependent on a forward like Luis Diaz or even Darwin Nunez leaving Anfield.
Gittens’ asking price could come down
Dortmund’s €100m (£84m) valuation has been mentioned by several sources but they may have to accept a fee below that figure if they don’t manage to seal Champions League qualification.
The Bundesliga side currently sit in 10th place, seven points adrift of the top 4, having recently sacked their head coach Nuri Sahin.
