Liverpool And Chelsea On Alert As Sky Reporter Reveals Summer Target With Release Clause Has Made “Transfer Request”

Borussia Dortmund winger and Liverpool target Jamie Gittens has handed in a “transfer request”, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Patrick Berger.

Writing on his X account, Berger also said that the 20-year-old is keen on moving back to England and Dortmund now expect him to leave the Bundesliga side at the end of the season..

Gittens has been scouted by the Reds and he was also reportedly the subject of enquiries from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The winger originally had an asking price of around €100m (£85.6m) but Dortmund won’t be able to hold out for that figure due to club’s poor league position.

Gittens has a “clause” in his contract

Responding to a question on a Q&A for The Athletic last week, respected journalist David Ornstein stated that the England international does have a “release clause” in his contract that would allow him to leave if Dortmund don’t qualify for Europe.

With the German club currently sitting 8th in the table with six games to go, there is a strong possibility that it will become active over the coming weeks.

Liverpool may need to replace Diaz

It has been widely reported that talks with Luis Diaz over a contract extension have stalled and the Colombian international could well be allowed to leave Anfield this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

With doubts over the future of Federico Chiesa as well, it does appear increasingly likely that the Reds will be in the market for a left-winger to complement Cody Gakpo if both players are sold.

Gittens’ availability and the fact that the Merseysiders have been keeping tabs on him for some time does suggest that a bid for the young Englishman could be lodged.
