Bundesliga Star ‘Arrives In The UK’ As Liverpool Look To Seal First Summer Signing

Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong is closing in on a move to Liverpool, having flown in to the country on a private jet.

Sky Sports News have shared a video which shows that Frimpong has “arrived in the UK” ahead of sealing his £30m switch to Anfield.

It has been known for quite some time that the Dutchman would become a Liverpool player, although things had gone relatively quiet on the deal for the past week or so.

The release clause was officially triggered and it appears he will become the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window if all goes to plan.

Frimpong is a very different player to Trent

Although the 24-year-old is a very attacking defender like Trent Alexander-Arnold, his passing isn’t one of his strongest attributes. He is much more adept carrying the ball and utilising his pace to get in behind defences.

There are serious question marks over Frimpong’s ability to play in a back four. He was deployed in the position during his 18 months at Celtic prior to his transfer to Leverkusen in 2021.

However, the vast majority of his games for the Bundesliga side over the past four and a half years have been in a back five and it remains to be seen how well he will adapt.

Liverpool plan to make several additions early in the summer

The Reds are also still in talks with Leverkusen about signing Florian Wirtz. An opening bid of €100m (£84m) has been lodged but discussions over add-ons and how they will be triggered is still ongoing.

Arne Slot’s side are hoping to snap up a second fullback as well. Read more here as journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms “club-to-club talks are underway” with another Premier League team.
