“That Would Be Great” – Fullback With 19 Goal Contributions Reveals Interest In £34M Liverpool Transfer

Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong says he would be interested in joining Liverpool.

The former Manchester City and Celtic player has excelled since Xabi Alonso‘s appointment as Leverkusen manager last year and, asked whether he could see himself making the switch to Anfield if Alonso also moves to Merseyside, Frimpong replied:

“Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring?”

Frimpong has played almost exclusively as a right wingback this season and he has been very effective in the final third of the pitch, scoring 9 goals and providing 10 assists. Whether the Reds actually need someone of the Dutchman’s profile, though, it is up for debate.

As well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley has impressed since breaking into the starting lineup so the club are pretty well covered on the right flank.

Frimpong will be available for a reasonable fee this summer

Reliable sources have confirmed that the 23-year-old has a €40m (£34m) release clause that can be triggered when the transfer window reopens.

Considering Frimpong’s form, and his apparent interest in moving to England, Liverpool may well be tempted to make a move for him.

Liverpool are not the only Premier League club the defender has been linked with

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been mentioned as potential suitors for Frimpong over the past year or so.

The fact that the fullback also has a buyout clause means he will attract offers from plenty of clubs, especially if he maintains his current form until the end of the season.

It’s likely that Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong will hinge on whether Alonso is appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement. Despite being the leading candidate for the job, though, the Reds will have to compete with Bayern Munich if they want to secure the Spaniard’s services.
