Liverpool Weigh Up Shock Swoop For Chelsea Flop If Salah Leaves Anfield

Liverpool are considering an approach for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, according to CaughtOffside.com.

The website claims that the former Chelsea loanee and Juventus’s Federico Chiesa are the two main candidates to replace Mo Salah, if the Egyptian decides to force through a move to Al-Ittihad.

Reports in Saudi Arabia have claimed that the Newcastle fixture could be Salah’s last game for the Reds, although that hasn’t been substantiated by reliable sources in the UK.

From the looks of things, it does seem as if Jurgen Klopp’s side are taking precautionary measures, if Caught Offside‘s information is reliable.

Chiesa has been a long-term target for the Merseysiders so links to the Italian international are not surprising, but the prospect of Felix making the switch to Anfield will raise a few eyebrows.

Felix doesn’t have a future at Atletico

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo confirmed earlier this week that the Portuguese international does not want to play for the La Liga club, although he did suggest that there isn’t much interest in the player:

“It’s very clear, Joao Felix doesn’t want to play for Atleti. Whether other teams want him, that’s another debate.”

Felix had expressed an interest in joining Barcelona, but the Catalan side don’t appear to be in a position to make an offer, so the forward may have to consider other options.

He struggled during a spell at Chelsea

After making the loan move to Stamford Bridge for the second half of last season, Felix failed to make an impact, scoring 4 goals and providing 0 assists in 20 appearances.

The Blues were somewhat in crisis at the time, though, so he may perform better in a more settled team. Even so, the 23-year-old isn’t known for his high work rate, and that was one of the reasons he reportedly fell out with Atletico boss Diego Simeone, and you can’t see him fairing any better under Klopp.
