Liverpool transfer target Johan Bakayoko has declared that he is “ready” to play for a top club.
Reports in the Dutch media have suggested that the Reds and Arsenal are tracking the PSV Eindhoven winger and, speaking about his future, the Belgian said he is open to a move if the right opportunity comes along:
“If I were to leave Eindhoven, it would only be to a club that plays for the prizes just like PSV. Becoming a champion is what I want. And win the Champions League. I have the qualities for that. I’m ready for the top.”
PSV are thought to be willing to sell Bakayoko this summer but they are hoping to get around €50m (£42m), which is a valuation that may put off Arne Slot’s side from making an approach.
Why are Liverpool interested in the winger?
Bakayoko is left-footed who possesses a good deal of pace, and many believe he could be a potential long-term successor for Mo Salah. The Egyptian has less than a year left on his contract at Anfield.
The main difference between the two players, though, is goals. Bakayoko has only really found his shooting boots over the last year, having scored 21 in 85 senior appearances for PSV. At the age of 21, there is potential for him to become more consistent in front of goal but Liverpool will have to decide whether he is worth his aforementioned price tag.
Are any alternatives to Bakayoko being looked at?
The Reds have been tentatively linked with the likes of Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Borussia Dortmund pair Karim Adeyemi & Donyell Malen, Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier and even Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
However, sporting director Richard Hughes and his recruitment team have yet to make a concerted move for any of these players.
