Liverpool transfer target Jorrel Hato has revealed that he won’t leave Ajax this month amid Premier League interest.
The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table, six points clear of Arsenal who are currently second. They have a game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend, in what could be a tough fixture for Arne Slot’s side.
They have had a quiet January transfer window, with no incomings or outgoings, however they have been linked to Ajax centre-back Jorell Hato.
The Reds reportedly identified Hato as a future replacement for Virgil van Dijk who’s contract expires at Anfield in the summer. A contract extension has not been agreed, and it looks as though the Dutchman could become a free agent.
However, according to the Metro, Hato revealed that he won’t be leaving Ajax this month, despite the fact that he was spotted in the stands during Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Ipswich Town last weekend.
He said: “I am not leaving in the winter and want to finish the season at Ajax,’ Hato said at Ajax’s pre-match press conference on Wednesday. I also read the reports and know that not everything is true. For my development, it is best that I stay at Ajax now.
“I was invited by Ryan Gravenberch. I didn’t speak to a director there. Liverpool played well and the atmosphere in the stadium was good, but that’s all I can say.”
Liverpool face Premier league competition to sign Hato
The centre-back hasn’t only generated interest from Liverpool, as the report suggests that Arsenal also have an eye on the 18-year-old.
Hato has made 31 appearances for Ajax so far this season, becoming one of their brightest prospects. He’s scored three goals and contributed five assists, impressive numbers for a defender.
It looks as though Liverpool won’t be able to sign him this month, and will have to battle Arsenal for Hato’s signature in the summer transfer window instead.
