Liverpool Plot Move For £42M Manchester City Transfer Target To Replace Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up a move for Bayern Munich full-back Joshua Kimmich in an attempt to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who looks set for a move to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning that he could move to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer from Liverpool; a move that looks more and more likely.

Liverpool rejected a £20m offer from Madrid at the start of January as the La Liga side attempted to sign him now rather than in the summer.

Reports have emerged that Arne Slot has identified a possible replacement for Trent, in the form of Joshua Kimmich, who is also being monitored by rivals Manchester City.

According to German Football Journalist Christian Falk on X, Liverpool are considering a move for the 29-year-old, who, like Alexander-Arnold, is set to be a free agent in the summer.

Falk also reported that Kimmich is in talks with Bayern over a new deal, however, as there is less than six months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, he is also free to negotiate with foreign clubs, such as the Reds.

Liverpool face competition from rivals to sign Kimmich

Manchester City are said to have held a longstanding interest in the German full-back, as they look for a replacement for Kyle Walker, who is now 34 years old.

Walker’s contract at the Etihad is set to expire next summer, meaning that he may begin to seek a move away this year, especially if Pep Guardiola decides to make a move for Kimmich.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes that the Reds don’t need to sign a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, because he believes that Conor Bradley can fill the spot.

He said: “I think Conor Bradley would be perfect. Whenever he’s come in, he’s looked better anyway. To be honest, I think Trent only played in some of the games because of his reputation.”
