Liverpool Told Why “Brilliant” Arsenal Star Would Be The Perfect Signing To Fix “Major Issue”

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock says Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber would have been the ideal target to rectify the “major issue” that the Reds are facing at right-back.

Head coach Arne Slot has struggled to find a reliable option in that position, and Warnock says that a solution needs to be found sooner rather than later:

“In the right back position, they have [Jeremie] Frimpong, [Joe] Gomez and [Conor] Bradley. All three are injury-prone, and they are not robust enough to play week in week out, and that is something they have to go away from. Liverpool has to look at how reliable their players are to play every single week, and at the moment,t those players aren’t fit enough for that. That is a major issue for Liverpool at the moment.”

“Liverpool are a better team when they have a proper right back in that position. It balances the team better and allows [Dominik] Szoboszlai to play in the midfield. So, I think signing a right back is equally as important as signing a centre back at the moment. In an ideal world, I would bring in Jurrien Timber, but I don’t think Arsenal would allow that. I think he is the best right back in the league. I think he is brilliant. Someone of that quality who is good in one-vs-one situations. Since his ACL injury, he has shown his robustness to come back.”

Timber is not a realistic transfer target

Of course,  it is highly unlikely that Arsenal would consider selling the Netherlands international. He has been one of their best players this season.

Timber has managed to displace Ben White as first-choice on the right-hand side of the Gunners’ defence over the past 18 months, and he has been very consistent.

Who could Liverpool target instead?

According to reports, it seems as if a move for Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza is being considered. The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season.

The fullback can also play in the centre of defence, and he could be available for a knockdown price during the January transfer window.
